What happened to WKY?
Written on 15 February 2006 by AdministratorI know I’m a bit late with this but it really pisses me off that the people sitting in a board room can decide what the community needs just by looking at numbers. Not everyone likes to listen to syndicated radio, if we wanted that we have xm, the internet and the other stations around the state that run the same syndicated content. With WKY Oklahoma finally had a AM station that actually let it’s own people speak. People like Mark Shannon and Ron “The 400lb Gorilla” Black actually spoke their mind. They didn’t have a nationwide audience to please, they were here to talk about issues that affected Oklahomans.
Stupid people who sit in board rooms and think they know what people really want should be taken out back and taken care of. Thanks to the WKY staff for letting Oklahoma have a brief shot at true free speech speech.
Yep
Written on 14 February 2006 by AdministratorA friend pasted this in a chatroom the other day. Thank your geek, he didn’t get this far in life by being a pimp.
< @Modoc> I had a person ask me at work how I learned about computers, and I said you remember dating in high school? He said yes. And I said I don’t.
My take on recent changes
Written on 21 December 2005 by AdministratorI’ve got to rant about this somewhere, and isn’t that what blogs are for?
1. Earlier this year SBC/AT&T announced Project Lightspeed. They plan to bring faster internet & IPTV to 18 million customers by 2007.
2. Cox announced the sale of 940,000 customers to Cebridge Cable earlier this month.
3. Verizon is still going full speed on their FIOS deployments.
4. The Utopia network in Utah is still expanding at a decent clip, impressive for a state owned network.
5. Pioneer COOP in Kingfisher, OK has already began deploying triple play services(IPTV, Internet & telephone) to their mostly rural customers.
My respones:
1. I live across the street from my work. There we can get 6mbit adsl, across the street the max speed my line is qualified for is 1.5mbit.
2. For the past 3-4 weeks we’ve had horrible packet loss and high pings between 6-11pm. Cox won’t fix it i’m sure because they are just waiting it out until they hand the reigns over.
3. Only in select markets, and of course they are mostly a east coast company, somehow they have TX though.
4. I’d love to see more states doing this, but most if not all of the Utopia resellers have an absurd cap of between 10-100gb of data per month. Sure we’ll give u a 15mbit connection, just don’t use it too much.
5. Their faults in this area are few, but they are still there. These small towns they service like Nash have maybe a population of 125 or around that. alot of people live within a radius of the town so they are out of luck. Pioneer’s max dsl offering is a package offering 1.5mbit/256k for $49.95, kind of crazy when cox offers 4mbit/512k for $39.95 and SBC has 6mbit/608k for $49.99.
I’m just really fed up with these companies here in OK. Most problems start with their customer support departments, other involve the people who decide that rural america doesn’t deserve decent offerings. Cox refused to deploy VOIP to Enid because the 5 million it would have taken in upgrades “just wasn’t worth it”. Because of decade old agreements Pioneer can’t offer service in Enid because of SBC.
Maybe it is time for a wireless Oklahoma, too bad the ones that have tried have sucked horribly at marketing, repairs, installations, quality and about anything else you can think of. Nodanet here in enid has a single T1 for all their customers. eConnect has 4 T1’s, which handles their network very well. Too bad their office is in Alva and they refuse to open a office in Enid to help promote their service.

It’s an application used on a HTPC(Home Theater Personal Computer) to watch movies, watch and record tv and listen to music. Being open source, they’ve garnered alot of support from developers that have added alot of extra features via their plugin system.

Shocking Katrina Aftermath Video
Written on 12 December 2005 by AdministratorSince I posted the video of the man telling the reporter “we owe them” it would only be fair if I posted a video showing the other side of the story. This is a shocking video, not because of graphic content or nudity, but because it is disgusting that a state and city goverment would allow this to happen.
I guess it just goes to show that even after Katrina, Louisiana is still screwing their people in every way they can think of.

Napster Support Sucks!
Written on 5 December 2005 by AdministratorOk so I subscribed to napster a few months ago thinking I would be using my shiny new mp3 player more then I actually do. Well I don’t because I mostly just use it to listen to podcasts. So I called Napster to cancel, no big deal. It took 44 minutes for someone to pick up the phone. I guess i should be thankful that I didn’t get routed to India as the woman on the phone was american.
Napster please hire more call center folks, you can’t support OS X or Linux, at least spend the money on grunts to man the phones.
